Mission Statement: To comfort the disturbed, and to disturb the comfortable. Deacon Rodolfo “Rudy” Villarreal is self-described as a husband, a father, a public speaker, a Roman Catholic deacon, a theologian and a missionary disciple of Jesus Christ. He is married and has 4 children. He is an alumnus of St. Mary’s University in San Antonio where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (with a minor in History) and a Master of Arts degree in Theology. He also received a Diploma in Pastoral Theology from the University of St. Thomas School of Theology at St. Mary’s Seminary as part of his diaconal formation. He is currently working on a doctorate in ministry in preaching at Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis. He is a Deacon for the Diocese of Austin and currently serves as the Director of Faith Formation & Evangelization at St. John Vianney in Round Rock. He helps his wife who leads a missionary program in Honduras called Friends of Los Niños (https://www.friendsoflosninos.org/) – a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization – where a group of amazing donors and volunteers help support children in an orphanage in El Progreso. They also work with several impoverished villages helping to empower people through education, skills development and encouraging micro-businesses. Villarreal is the creator of the new podcast “deacon rudy’s notes” (https://www.deaconrudysnotes.org/) which offers down-to-earth reflections on the Sunday Catholic mass readings. His most recent book (2016) is My Mission Journal: A Guide for Prayer and Reflection published by Deep River Press, Inc., (Sanford, North Carolina). His current research area is effective preaching by clergy and the laity.
