Deacon Warlito J. Borja is a Filipino-Belgian Theologian who is currently serving in the Archdiocese of Brussels-Mechelen and at the same time the Director of Catholic Religious Education at the Geilenkirchen NATO Air Base in Germany. Aside from facilitating courses with the VLCFF-University of Day, Ohio, he is also an International Examiner of the International Baccalaureate (IB) for World Religions, Philosophy and Theory of Knowledge (Geneva, Switzerland). Moreover, he is an International Board Member and Referee for Lux Veritatis: Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies, University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi, Philippines and Scientia: The International Journal of Liberal Arts of San Beda University, Philippines. He holds both an academic and ecclesiastical doctoral degree in Systematic Theology (PhD, SThD) from the Catholic University of Leuven. In 2018, he was awarded a Plaque of Recognition – Humanitarian Service Excellence Award, by the Asian Community Social Response (ACSR) and a Plaque of Recognition – Outstanding Premier Male Philosopher and Theologian, by the Asian Achiever International. Dr. Borja served as the Council of International SchooIs (CIS) Coordinator, IGCSE and Exams Coordinator at the International School of Belgium where he also taught Philosophy and Theory of Knowledge (2017-2019). Founded and co-founded Lay Church Organizations in Belgium (Catholic Community of Leuven and Catholic Charismatic Community of Brussels). Before going to Belgium, Dr. Borja taught Philosophy and Theology courses in Universities and Colleges in the Philippines like The De La Salle University Manila, St. Paul University, San Beda University, University of Makati and San Juan De Dios Educational Foundation. His current research interest includes the "New Face of the Preferential Option for the Poor in Belgium" where he tries to prove how the concept of poverty can be identified with new situations of need in the highly developed and secularized society of Belgium and how the Church could respond to those needs. He also wanted to investigate how the Christian perspective became the normative perspective in Europe, specially in Belgium in order to debunk the post-Christianity narrative and propose an evolved version of Christianity in European countries. He is also working on proposing "Different Modalities of Permanent Diaconate in the Philippines" where he explores the diaconal formation and possible specific local ministries of permanent married deacons in a Catholic country where "celibate priesthood" is the cultural norm.
