Karen served twelve years as director of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis and the Office of Child and Youth Protection for the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, a home mission in southern Missouri. She currently works as a catechetical consultant, and teaches English to students in Asia. She and her husband live in a log cabin in the mountains of southern Colorado. They have both served the Church as lay ecclesial ministers during their 41 years of marriage. They have four adult children and two grandchildren. Karen earned a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Religious Education from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, and a post Master's Certificate in Pastoral Supervision from St. Meinrad School of Theology. Karen has been a catechist since the age of 16, with 21 years of experience as a parish Director of Religious Education. She is a past member of the National Conference of Catechetical Leadership (NCCL) board of directors, and has facilitated courses for the VLCFF since 2010.
