Karen served twelve years as director of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis and the Office of Child and Youth Protection for the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, a home mission in southern Missouri. She currently works as a consultant, and teaches English to students in China. She and her husband live in a log cabin on a mountain in Colorado. They have both served the Church as lay ecclesial ministers during their 37 years of marriage. They have four adult children and two grandchildren. Karen earned a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Religious Education from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, and a post Master's Certificate in Pastoral Supervision from St. Meinrad School of Theology. Karen has been a catechist since the age of 16, with 21 years of experience as a parish Director of Religious Education. She is a past member of the National Conference of Catechetical Leadership (NCCL) board of directors.
