Course Summary

This course is intended for those seeking an overview of and background to the Bible so that they can more fully understand Sacred Scripture from a Catholic perspective. It includes themes such as Biblical Composition, Inspiration, the Canon of the Sacred Scripture, and How to Choose a Bible.

General Course Objectives

  • Students are able to explain the concept of Revelation as it pertains to the Bible in the Catholic Church.
  • Students are able to differentiate between methods of translation of the Bible in order to choose an appropriate version for their personal use.
  • Students are able to articulate the process by which the Bible came to be.
  • Students are able to interpret Scripture from both a literal and a fuller (or spiritual) perspective.
  • Students are able to explain the difficulties of a fundamentalist approach to the Bible.
