Descripción del curso

This course will look at some of the major doctrines of the Catholic Church. Participants will come to a better understanding of the Trinity, original sin, church, salvation history, and the communion of saints. Participants will be asked to identify the meaning of magisterium, ecumenism, eschatology, and other Catholic terms.

  • Understand some arguments for the existence of God.
  • Define revelation as God's communication with us
  • Articulate why the Trinity is the central mystery of our Christian faith and life.
  • Articulate how Scripture speaks of God as creator.
  • Describe original sin as a condition we are born into where we are inclined toward choosing evil
  • Understand Jesus as God’s self revealed.
  • Understand the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church.
  • Understand the role of the Church in God’s plan of salvation and the relationship of the Catholic Church and other religions
  • Articulate how Mary and the saints are models of Christian holiness
  • Describe the Church’s teachings in the area of eschatology.

  • Semana 1: Who is God: How do we know God exists
    • Describe some arguments for the existence of God.
    • Explain how God communicates with us. (revelation, salvation history, covenant)
    • Articulate how Scripture speaks of God as creator
    • Describe original sin as a condition we are born into where we are inclined toward choosing evil
  • Semana 2: What do we know about Jesus?
    • Understand Jesus as God’s revelation of Himself to humankind.
    • Consider the meaning of the Lamb of God and the Paschal Mystery.
    • Reflect on Jesus as “the mediator between God and man.”
  • Semana 3: The Holy Spirit and the Blessed Trinity
    • Articulate why the Trinity is the central mystery of our Christian faith and life.
    • Understand the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church.
  • Semana 4: The Church: Images, Marks and Attitudes toward other Religions
    • Understand the role of the Church in God’s plan of salvation
    • Examine the relationship of the Catholic Church with other religions
  • Semana 5: This World and the Next
    • Examine the role of Mary in the Catholic Church.
    • Describe the Church’s teachings in the area of eschatology.
    • Understand concepts such as death, judgment, Second Coming of Christ, parousia, heaven, hell, purgatory, resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.
    • Articulate how Mary and the saints are models of Christian holiness.
