For the past twenty years, I have served in different capacities in special education ministry. Early in my teaching experience, I prepared young children with special needs for the sacraments. . I have taught deaf and hard of hearing children with additional special needs in a classroom setting and I have been the administrator of an elementary school for deaf children. Both the children I have served and their families have taught me many important lessons about being a disciple of Jesus. I was prepared for this ministry in my studies at The College of New Jersey where I earned a M. Ed. and at Gallaudet University where I earned an MA. I am a member of a community of religious women, The Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I have lived in this religious community for the past 45 years. I have served in many dioceses along the eastern coast of the US, having made profession of vows in 1973.Having retired from Montgomery County Public Schools in MD, I am presently working with the Expanded Services of Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington VA. Our team of 4 enables teens with Down Syndrome to attend a Catholic High School and work with peer mentors. I count myself fortunate to be able to serve God’s Church in this special capacity.
