Course Summary

What does it mean to be Marianist? In this course, we will explore the concept of charism and what is special about the Marianist charism. We will delve into spirituality and the principles and practices of Marianist spirituality. We will become familiar with the Marianist apostolate and its importance in forming Marianist life. We will understand the real and potential impact of the Marianist mission on the wider Church and global community. And finally, we will have a deeper and broader understanding of what it means to be Marianist.

General Course Objectives

  • Delve into spirituality and recognize the principles and practices of Marianist spirituality.
  • Become familiar with the Marianist apostolate and its importance in forming Marianist life.
  • Be acquainted with the ways in which Marianist spirituality is manifested in the world.

  • Week 1: Charism
    • To understand the charism as the source of spirituality and apostolic approach.
    • To differentiate charism from its manifestations.
    • To describe the Marianist charism.
  • Week 2: Marianist Spirituality
    • Understand the principle elements of Marianist spirituality as they develop from the Marianist charism.
    • Understand the role of spirituality in keeping the charism alive.
  • Week 3: Apostolic Ministry
    • Understand what it means to be a “missionary of Mary.”
    • Connect the Marianist apostolic approach to the mission of the Church.
  • Week 4: Manifestation I (Mary and Faith)
    • Understanding the meaning of “faith of the heart” and how it is lived.
    • Understanding the ways in which Marianists are open to being “formed by Mary.”
  • Week 5: Manifestations II (Inclusivity, Community, Mission)
    • Understand the meaning of “unity in diversity.”
    • Understand the meaning of “family spirit.”
    • Understand the impact (real or potential) of the Marianist mission on the wider Church and global community.
